It's About Collaboration and Communication
I was just doing some completely unrelated research on the Washington State webpage, and found a link to the Washington State Library's Summer Reading blog. It's a pilot project that the library is running this summer. I particularly like the answer to the question"why a summer reading blog?"

"Blogs and similar collaboration technologies have the potential to foster better communication among librarians, between librarians and patrons, and among patrons themselves."

I just took a peek at the posts on the Washington Summer Reading Blog. It seems kids are posting (good!) but they * aren't commenting * on posts (disappointing?). Is this "communicating" in the way Washington Reads was hoping to inspire? Don't get me wrong - it's great that kids are reading books and pupblishing their reviews, but this is definitely NOT Web 2.0! What's the difference between a post on a blog and a post on a bulletin board if there isn't a back-and-forth dialog? So, I agree that "it's about collaboration and communication" but if there aren't comments, creating 'dialog' then is it a blog?
